Solution for Inspector Gadgets on BMWs

Let's face it: bikers love to farkle their rides. Especially big and flashy bikes like the R1200 GS and R1200 RT from BMW.

The problem with adding electronic doodads on a Beemer, is the rather sensitive nature of its CANBUS wiring system: it just won't go to sleep with the slightest electrical noise from whatever power-consuming fitting there is on the bike ... and that's a lot, even with stock-standard equipment.

In comes Fuzeblock with a very solid solution for the electro-gadgeteers on BMWs - the Fuzeblock FZ-1:

Here's what Fuzeblock has to say about the CANBUS system:

"The main issue with the CanBus system is its susceptibility to transient voltages. A standard relay has a coil and when the electrical field on that coil collapses the energy needs to go somewhere. The voltage travels back through the wiring and, if not blocked, to the bike. The FZ-1 provides two diodes to prevent this from happening. Both diodes provide protection ensuring that any transient voltages are sent to ground or blocked from traveling back into the bike wiring."

... and hence keeping the entire electrical system on your proud Motorrad on full power - as if leaving its ignition key on the ON position - and draining ze Batterie in no time flat.

Yet another excellent farkle for the farkles on your BMW. At a paltry (for BMWstandards, that is) USD79.95 excluding shipping and taxes, I'll fit it myself. That is, if I have a Beemer to begin with ...

Jap 650cc dualsport killer from ze Germans?

Word has it that Auto Bavaria Malaysia (Motorrad Division) is bringing in the 2011 BMW G650 GS, which is a re-hash of the marque's highly popular single-cylinder, Rotax-engined F650 GS.

The key point here is that Auto Bavaria is trying to price it at RM50,000 or below. If they are successful, it is very likely to cannibalize sales of the 650cc Japanese dualsport machines in Malaysia, such as Kawasaki's KLR650 and Suzuki's DR650E.

Quick 'n' dirty off-road riding tutorial

This is a promo video by BMW Motorrad for its F800GS. It's done some time ago, which highlights the F800GS's technical capabilities; but is also a great short video on off-road riding skills.

Getting the old bike running again

This is a great short article by Cycle World on how to get the old bike that has been lying around in the backyard working again. Well, maybe not for a transcontinental adventure ... but hey: I'm pretty sure that C70 can still serve duty for grocery runs, right?

Welcome to Ron's Moto Adventures

Heya!

I just testing out this new blog ... Well, not really a new blog, but a new home for my ramblings about my passion: motorcycling and all that goes with it.

I hope to bring on over my stuff from another blog soon, so stay tuned ...
