Let's face it: bikers love to farkle their rides. Especially big and flashy bikes like the R1200 GS and R1200 RT from BMW.
The problem with adding electronic doodads on a Beemer, is the rather sensitive nature of its CANBUS wiring system: it just won't go to sleep with the slightest electrical noise from whatever power-consuming fitting there is on the bike ... and that's a lot, even with stock-standard equipment.
In comes Fuzeblock with a very solid solution for the electro-gadgeteers on BMWs - the Fuzeblock FZ-1:
Here's what Fuzeblock has to say about the CANBUS system:
"The main issue with the CanBus system is its susceptibility to transient voltages. A standard relay has a coil and when the electrical field on that coil collapses the energy needs to go somewhere. The voltage travels back through the wiring and, if not blocked, to the bike. The FZ-1 provides two diodes to prevent this from happening. Both diodes provide protection ensuring that any transient voltages are sent to ground or blocked from traveling back into the bike wiring."
... and hence keeping the entire electrical system on your proud Motorrad on full power - as if leaving its ignition key on the ON position - and draining ze Batterie in no time flat.
Yet another excellent farkle for the farkles on your BMW. At a paltry (for BMWstandards, that is) USD79.95 excluding shipping and taxes, I'll fit it myself. That is, if I have a Beemer to begin with ...
